“Our job is to love others without stopping to inquire whether or not they are worthy.” - Thomas Merton

Hello! My name is Sarah Smith. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Registered Play Therapist. My expertise is in working with kids and teens to address traumatic abuse or neglect, behavioral concerns, developmental and intellectual disabilities, divorce or other life transitions, grief and loss, fostering and adoption transitions, and mood concerns including depression and anxiety. I believe that the body and brain have a deep capacity for healing and that with the proper tools, children and teens have a natural capacity to move towards health and integration of their experiences.

I received my Bachelors degree from Georgia Southern University in Child and Family Development and my Masters degree from the University of Texas in Clinical Social Work. My background in child development and continued studies in the field have led me to build my clinical work on the foundations of developmentally appropriate practice, trauma informed care, and attachment and person-centered theories.

In the therapy room, I use various Play Therapy interventions tailored to the individual. Play Therapy is an evidence based practice that taps into play as a child’s most natural form of communication. Where a talk therapy session would focus on the words being conveyed, Play Therapy focuses on the actions/reactions, choices, behaviors, and themes conveyed by the child in the playroom. By meeting the child or teen where they are developmentally, we can address the psychosocial difficulties that they present in a way that they understand and can take charge of.

The playroom offers children and teens the opportunity to explore, learn, grow, and be challenged in a safe and therapeutic environment, free from judgment and wholly committed to their health and wellbeing. I am passionate about the therapeutic process and I would love the opportunity to work with you and your child!
