"Misbehavior and punishment are not opposites that cancel each other – on the contrary they breed and reinforce each other." ~ Haim Ginott
Wouldn’t it be great if children came into this world with an instruction manual? Or if we could just get a rule book of life’s policies, so we would be prepared for the things that life throws at us? But things just don’t work that way. Each of us has to find the answers that are right for us, and I strongly believe that each of us carries the inner resources to do so. That doesn’t mean that we have to do it alone though. I am here to engage with you in a collaborative relationship to find the solutions that are right for you.
I specialize in work with children and teens who are having difficulties with school, depression, anxiety or trauma, with adults who are struggling with parenting, depression, anxiety or life changes like divorce, and with families that are encountering difficulties/conflicts. I have had over 25 years experience working with children and parents as a teacher and counselor in schools, and 7 years of experience working with adults and children experiencing high conflict divorce.
Because children are often unable to verbalize fully the difficulties they experience, I incorporate child centered play therapy, sand tray and other creative therapy methods that are developmentally appropriate to help children express their feelings and unlock their conflicts. I include client-centered humanistic therapy, CBT, Solution-Focused Therapy, Family Systems, creative and mindfulness strategies in work with older teens and adults to empower them to make positive changes in their lives. These methods are all deeply respectful and value every person’s unique strengths and resources.
